Founded in 1880s, Angelino Heights was LA's first suburb. About a mile from downtown, it was originally connected to downtown by trolley. The trolley line ran from Main Street in downtown, along Temple Street and up the steep hills into the neighborhood. Angelino Heights was an upper middle class community. About 50 Victorian homes and carriage houses from that era exist today, many of which have been restored. The best of the bunch are on the 1300 block of Carroll Avenue, and have been featured in movies, TV and commercials. You might recognize the one at the bottom from the Thriller video.
